Student voices on urgent and crucial topics.

Dear Cate Community,

We are honored to serve as your Editors-in-Chief of El Batidor, Cate’s student-run newspaper, for the 2024-25 school year. The name El Batidor, meaning “the whisk” in Spanish, reflects our mission perfectly. Just as a whisk blends ingredients into a cohesive whole, our publication seeks to mix the diverse ideas and beliefs of the Cate community into a unified and representative print. Our aim is to provide a platform for every voice within our school, creating space for thoughtful dialogue, and offering new perspectives that prompt critical thinking.

A school newspaper serves as a mirror of the student body, reflecting the issues, topics, and values that resonate most deeply with its readers. It captures what students care about, while also providing insight into why these subjects matter to them. By exploring and giving voice to their passions and concerns, the newspaper becomes more than just a source of information; it becomes a reflection of the collective heartbeat of the school community, shaping conversations and fostering deeper connections among its members.

This year, one of our key goals is to elevate the journalistic integrity of El Bat to make it an even more trusted and reliable source of news. We’re committed to reporting objectively and without bias, keeping the values of truth, accuracy, and transparency at the forefront of our work. By adhering to the highest standards of journalism, we hope El Bat becomes the go-to source for school updates, comprehensive analyses of current events, and curated local recommendations.

In an increasingly interconnected world, we find ourselves in a unique position. Our community is made up of individuals from across the globe, each bringing their own distinct experiences, cultures, and perspectives. It’s our job to capture and highlight this diversity, not only by reflecting our community’s thoughts but also by expanding our collective worldview through thoughtful, well-researched reporting.

As we embark on this year’s journey, we invite all students, faculty, and staff to engage with El Batidor. No matter how you choose to contribute, whether writing, reading, or sharing, your voice matters. Together, we can ensure this publication remains a true reflection of Cate’s vibrant and dynamic community.

Thank you to those who make this publication possible—our writers, editors, readers, and faculty advisors, Avani Patel Shah and Tracey Calhoun. Here’s to an exciting year of growth, learning, and discovery through the pages of El Batidor!

Sincerely,
Mia Groeninger ‘25, Nate Newlove ‘25, and Lucy Guilbert-Neal ‘25

Happy Reading!
