The 2023-2024 Girls Varsity Soccer team has had an astonishing season that ended in the first round of CIF playoffs. They finished the season third in the Valley League. Their most impressive game was on January 25th against Santa Clara with a score of 11-0. As stated by Coach Taylor Wyatt in her post-game recap, “The girls played all out of position and yet stayed organized. They maintained possession and got to practice against a different type of defense they usually do.” This allowed them to focus on their offense. This game was held at Cate and honored the seniors on the team. 4 out of the 6 seniors scored goals this game! Josie Frazier, ‘24 stated, “ We were super proud of this game and it is definitely a prominent memory from the season!”
This year the Girls Varsity Soccer team started with 18 players and throughout the season gained 2 more players who moved up from Junior Varsity due to their hard work and grit. This season was full of proud moments and successes. As Nika Iverson, a sophomore Varsity striker states, “I am super happy with how well our team bonded and grew together. Especially, with the help of our amazing seniors.”
The team has six seniors who have helped bring up the energy and experience of the team and the team won't feel the same without them next year. But this season has truly seen its ups and downs. “Between the illnesses traveling around campus and the injuries our team has faced, this season has been a difficult success.” Lauren Hubbs (defense) ‘26.
Despite these challenges the girls faced, they persevered and won or tied half of their games. Fiona Pan ‘27 and Josie Frazier ‘24 demonstrated amazing offense, Fiona scoring 5 goals and Josie scoring 4. Precious Adjei ‘27 was the top scorer with 6 goals this season.
The Girls Varsity Soccer team’s first playoff game was held on Thursday, February 8th all the way down south near Hollywood. The girls played Campbell Hall and the score was 4-0 so sadly this was their last game of the season but a huge shout out to Jeeyou Jung, goalie, who saved 16 shots! Congratulations on an amazing season, girls!
