Guess who asked who to ho-co? You wouldn’t believe it… Cate School students showed impressive skill in the timing of their hoco-asks of 2022 – many surprising and last-minute asks, thus many pairs separated by tables. Confident public asks kicked off a strong start: from the freshman obsession with asking at the sunset bench to the sophomores’ classic flower and poster asks right outside of 25.
In addition to those typical asks, some more private hoco-asks were more personal. For instance, an avid tennis player was asked with tennis balls placed in the shape of: “hoco?”, on the tennis court. As they recalled, this tailored homecoming ask felt, “sweet and surprising”.
On a more choreographed and rehearsed note, the 4 seniors‘ Kpop dance hoco-ask for their friends in one of the first assemblies of the year brought light to the long list of announcements following. According to Ella Chang, one of the 4 dancers, the preparation of the dance was: “Actually really fun, my friend and I choreographed everything in like 30-40 minutes and that was a blast, and then we taught it to our two other friends…which was great.” Ella recounted the sentiment of the experience as: “enthusiastic.”
Few of these proposals were in assembly or the dining hall and rather happened in more private spaces (but everyone still somehow hears about it before you tell them). A sophomore says about their homecoming ask experience, ”It was really sweet, and I didn’t see it coming…it was a lovely surprise.”
