Starry Night: Celebrating Homecoming 2024

By: Claire Chan '28 and Riya Mitera '28

After relentless “Fein” replays, close-to-death mosh pit moments, and countless asks, the sun has officially risen above the “Starry Night.”

As students began to ask one another to Homecoming with creative posters and assembly announcements, seniors, Joba ‘25 and Cody ‘25, put in the work. With choreography help from Deuce Five prefect, Colette, freshman and sophomore girls dressed in white, jumping out of their seats into synced dancing as Joba and Cody took the stage. Twirls, dips, and heartwarming moments filled the dance - you had to have been there! Not only were there prepared dances asking students to Homecoming, but Ethan’s ‘25 slick football proposal and TJ’s ‘25 touching ask with the Long House boys singing “Linger” by The Cranberries, were also crowd-pleasers.

The spirit of Homecoming extended beyond the dorms, spilling over onto Sunset bench and Pars Lawn. Posters and bouquets of flowers were spotted almost everywhere the week leading up to the dance. The excitement progressed through Spirit Week, showcasing remarkable participation and dedication. Students and community members were spotted around campus in the baggiest of clothes, vibrant blues, and the comfiest pajamas, truly representing Cate's spirit. But of course, the best Homecoming fits were the dapper formal wear students showed up in on the night of the dance.

The day started early with Carp buses packed with people getting their nails done and others scrambling to pick up a last-minute bouquet for their date. Back in the dorms, music was blasting, freshly ironed dresses and suits were hanging on the windows, and curling irons were plugged into the wall. As 5:00 PM rolled around, everyone piled onto the Senior Lawn, where cameras flashed, poses were struck, and infectious laughter and smiles spread everywhere. After everyone’s camera storage was filled to the brim, students began heading to Booth Commons where vibrant masks and shiny beads lay on each table. After the delicious cupcakes, people filed out of the dining hall to get ready for the fun. With shorts, tank tops, and their best dancing skills, students got out of their fancy clothes and returned ready to dance.

Hoco 2024 has officially set under the horizon. We’ll see you next at Winter Formal 2024!
