Welcoming the Class of 2026!

Eleni Bhatia '24

For my first few days back at school, the campus was tranquil. The juniors and seniors arrived earlier in the week, leaving the underclassmen nowhere to be found; everything seemed frozen in time. But it all ended the Sunday before class started. The seniors’ screams and cheers were heard from across campus. I think that’s the earliest anyone has ever been awake on a Sunday. Every community member greeted the class of 2026 with a smile and open arms. There was an ocean of blue face paint, glitter, shirts, pants, houses, and gloves, bringing a new definition to the term “blue out.” The glowing campus energy was contagious throughout the Mesa, and I’m so glad this is the first glimpse of Cate the freshmen got to see. The overflow of school spirit was a great way to kick off the new school year. For the first time in two years, the freshmen were given a warm welcome they deserved, and we were delighted to give it to them. Lunches, advisory dinners, big sib/little sib games, and dorm activities filled the first few days, carrying the spirit through the start of school.

A happy and healthy campus is essential at a boarding school. To come together when times are tough, we must build a solid and encouraging campus community. I’m glad the Cate spirit is back and in full force, continuing even after a month on campus.
